Fritz Family

The Fritz family at Sherbrooke appear to be descended from Johann  “John” Fritz and his wife Mary. John Fritz was the son of George Fritz.

George Fritz

  • Johann J “John”  Fritz 1826 in Germany – d. 1875 in Woonona buried in Woonona Presbyterian Cemetery. He had arrived 1856 in the “Isherbrook” as an assisted Immigrant.  He married Elizabetha Mary Schafer / Smith – Schmidt ? (b. 1829 in Germany to John Smith (Schmidt) and ? Shalke -). He had lived at American Creek, Farmborough and Dapto. It is possible that some of his family were living at Sherbrooke after the death of John, as two of John and Mary’s younger children are listed as students there in 1885 – Mary Jane Fritz and Thomas Fritz.  Note – Mary Fritz is recorded in NSW BDM as marrying Eleazar King (- d. 1902 Hurstville) in 1879 – refer NSW 1900/1879 and an Eleazer King is listed as a landowner at the time of the land resumptions for Cataract Dam in 1902. Thus it is possible that most of John and Mary Fritz’s children may have lived at Sherbrooke with Mary and their stepfather Eleazer King Snr. And two of their children married Sherbrooke girls – Thomas Fritz married one of the Haberley girls of Sherbrook, Ada Florence Haberley, daughter of Jacob John Haberley and his wife Mary Ann Blinkco, and they lived in Sherbrooke. Mary Ann’s sister Elizabeth Margaret Blinkco had married John Fritz, older brother of Thomas, and they also lived at Sherbrooke. And yet another of their children, Mary E Fritz  seems to have married her step brother, Eleazer King Jnr.

The Illawarra Family However I have sighted Paul Louis John Fritz’s 1922 death certificate which mentions that his wife was Margaret Byrman, that he was buried at Woronora, that he was born in Germany, his father’s name was William, and that he had been in NSW for 35 years
