John Spink (1785 – 1859) convict arrived 1814 on General Hewitt. His 1859 death notice suggests that he was living in the Illawarra around 1827. John married Anne Riley nee Carne (1784 – 1836) convict arrived in the Colony as one of 121 female convicts in 1810 on the Canada, daughter of John Carne and Martha Trew.  Anne had previously been married 1805 to John Riley. Ann Riley nee Carne born on the 9th March 1784 at Stoke Dameral England. Ann stole a copper boiler valued at 4 shillings.

Ann was fined and sentenced to 3 months in the county gaol, until the fine was paid. The boiler was the property of Elizabeth Hickson. On the 9th of July 1808 Ann stole a carpet valued at 5 shillings at Stoke Dameral the property of Robert Collins. At her second trial Ann was ordered to be transported to Australia and remain in exile for 7 years. Ann was held at Exeter Castle Devon. Ann was transported to the vessel the Canada and arrived in Sydney after a 169 day voyage via Rio de Janeiro. Ann was married to John Riley on the Sep 3rd 1805. Ann was listed as a widow. Ann married convict John Spinks, on the 1st Oct 1824 at Banns Campbelltown by the Rev Thomas Reddall. John made his mark as an X and Ann signed her name. They settled in the Illawarra NSW. Ann was known as the White Queen by the Aborigines of Sherbrooke. Ann was very tall and graceful and rode side saddle and always wore white. Ann and John were responsible for bringing the cattle from Campbelltown to the South Coast. Ann Spinks died on the 3rd of  May 1836 in Dapto Wollongong. Ann was 51 when she died.

Several of John and Anne Spink’s descendants married into First Fleet (John Nicols) and Second Fleet (Mary Wade) Families.

    • Charity Frances Grace Spinks (1865 – 1947)  married William Schofer son of John and Maria Schofer. He was killed in the Bulli Mine Disaster of March 23 1887 and is buried at St Augustine’s Bulli Anglican Cemetery. Charity, widowed with two children, one who was born after William’s death, was outspoken on behalf of some of the Widows, who perceived they were being poorly treated by the Fund Raising Management Committee.
