Turnbull Family

Under Construction

It is not certain whether George Simpson Turnbull actually lived at Sherbrooke – he certainly owned a house there, which narrowly missed being destroyed in a bushfire in 1895.

George was from Shoreham Sussex in England and was living in the Illawarra by the 1860’s, prior to his 1870 marriage to Hannah Armstrong in Campbelltown.

By the 1880’s he seems to have been living in the Woonona Bulli area, where his two younger children were born.

In the 1890’s they were living at Thirroul, and his wife was renting out a number of holiday cottages in the area.

His 1918 obituary indicates that he had been involved in Mining before becoming a storekeeper and post master in 1869. He lived at Jedwood Thirroul at the time of his death, where he was an orchardist – also sending tons of blackberries to Sydney.
